Semi-permanent makeup when pregnant or breastfeeding
Semi-permanent makeup isn't carried out during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Reputable artists wait until you've finished breastfeeding before treating brows, lips or eyeliner.
Why artists wait
- Caution. There's no research showing pigments and treatment are safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so the safe choice is to wait.
- Healing. Pregnancy changes skin, hormones and blood flow, which can affect how the skin heals and how pigment settles.
- Results. Skin can be more sensitive and retain colour less predictably, so the result may not be what you'd want.
When can I book?
Once you've finished breastfeeding. Mention when you stopped at your consultation, along with any medication you take.
What if I find out I'm pregnant after booking?
Let your artist know as soon as you can so the appointment can be moved.
What if I'm pregnant between treatment and top-up?
Your 6–12 week top-up should wait until after you've finished breastfeeding too. Talk to your artist about the best plan.
