Semi-permanent brows and oily skin
Yes, you can have semi-permanent brows with oily skin — but the technique matters. Microblading isn't suitable for oily skin because fine strokes tend to blur as they heal; combination brows, with soft shading behind the strokes, hold much better.
Why oily skin changes things
Oily skin tends to have larger pores and produces more natural oil. As a brow heals, very fine strokes can spread slightly and soften, so they look less crisp and fade faster than on dry skin.
Which brow treatment suits oily skin?
| Treatment | On oily skin |
|---|---|
| Combination brows | Recommended — the shading gives depth that holds as it heals |
| Hairstroke brows | Better suited to normal or dry skin |
| Microblading | Not suitable for oily skin |
How do I know if my skin is oily?
- Your forehead and brow area look shiny by midday.
- Brow pencil or powder slides or fades during the day.
- You have visible pores across your forehead and nose.
Not sure? Your skin is assessed at your consultation before anything is agreed.
Looking after brows on oily skin
- Follow the aftercare closely, especially keeping the area dry for the first week.
- Keep oil-control and acid products (such as retinol and AHAs) away from the brows — they speed up fading.
- Expect to book colour top-ups a little sooner.
